Counselling is a talking therapy that provides you with a confidential space to talk about literally anything you like. Some people come to counselling with a set idea as to what they want to talk about, others have no agenda and just want to explore what’s on their mind at the time of the session.
Counselling is a collaborative experience and through the process of you talking and me empathetically listening without judgement we will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so that you can better understand yourself, others and your environment. This process enables you to become more self-aware, highlight changes you may need to make, heal emotional wounds, cut yourself free from the chains of your past, conquer fears and live a happier, healthier life.
The only certainty in life is death, yet experiencing the loss of a loved one (including pets) can be distressing, bewildering and hard to make sense of. Grief is not linear, may involve relapses and can be quite messy! Our Western society doesn’t respect and value the power of grief and often there is an expectation to not be affected by it, yet it is a normal and natural way for the body and mind to process loss.
Bereavement isn’t limited to just death, it includes the loss of hopes and dreams, a change in health, loss of a job, life-stage transitions, infertility, childlessness and relationship breakdowns. These losses can be just as painful and impactful as loss through death and I am here to help you work through them.
In a society that gives out very mixed messages about sex, with sex both everywhere yet also shamefully secretive, it can be really difficult to talk about. Sexual problems can severely impact our lives, relationships and happiness. I feel passionate about providing a safe and welcoming place where we can work through your sexual problems in a sensitive and supportive way. Common problems include loss of libido, painful sex, orgasm problems, erection problems and compulsive sexual behaviours. Approximately 80% of sexual problems have a psychological cause and so talking about them can be highly effective in overcoming them.
The number of counselling sessions you have is your choice, with a minimum of six sessions to open-ended counselling lasting years. Regular reviews will be made to evaluate therapeutic progress.
Typically, therapy is conducted weekly, however, I also offer twice-weekly and fortnightly appointments. Appointments are scheduled for the same day and time each week but I do hold a few spaces open so that I can offer some flexibility.
